Art Papers + Temporary Studios

Atlanta Art Week Event:

A Tremulous Force | Southside

Saturday, October 7 | 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM

1910 Murphy Ave SW Atlanta, GA 30310

This event is free; open to the public; and accessible by car, ride-share, or MARTA via the Lakewood Station. Limited free parking is available on site.

About:

A Tremulous Force will feature Atlanta-based artists William Downs, Aineki Traverso, and Kelly Taylor Mitchell alongside New York-based poet danilo machado and Philadelphia-based artist Julie Lee. This immersive, multi-sensory exhibition will present a variety of practices that explore themes of time, memory, and touch. These artists’ interdisciplinary approaches each, in their own ways, seek a sensorial connection to experiences that are foreclosed to the artist by time—but accessed through history, generational memory, and material archives.

Art Papers will also produce a pop-up shop with current and past issues of ART PAPERS magazine, custom merch from Art Papers and Temporary Art Center, and small works by participating artists and creators related to Art Papers’ programming. The exhibition opening will occur alongside an open studios event featuring current Temporary Studios Artists: Michael Allman, Fredrik Brauer, Antonio Darden, William Downs, Jill Frank, Scott Ingram, Michi Meko, Brandon Sadler, Hasani Sahlehe, Ellex Swavoni, and Michael Reese.

About Art Papers: Art Papers is an Atlanta-based nonprofit with an educational mission to provide accessible forums for examining, commissioning, and presenting contemporary art and culture. We do this in print, online, and in person through our magazine, website, and live programs. We support the careers of working artists and writers and explore ways that art is a lens to better understand the world around us and a tool for creating vibrant communities. Art Papers is committed to creating space for and amplifying diverse voices especially those voices that have historically been underrepresented. Editorially and artistically, we are committed to exploring the breadth and nuance of our publishing themes by commissioning work by a diverse roster of contributors.

About Temporary Studios: During the pandemic, ART PRODUCTS, LLC and The Temporary Art Center recognized a clear need in our community for artists’ studio spaces. The Temporary Studios settled into a beautiful 3,500 sq. ft building at the southern edge of the Sylvan Hills neighborhood in Atlanta, across the train tracks from the new Tyler Perry Studios.
