About:

Go off the beaten path to explore Krog Street Tunnel – Atlanta’s most iconic graffiti site. Known as an underground art gallery and community bulletin board, artists paint the walls, street and ceilings of this rapidly changing hub.

This 3-part series takes you behind the scenes of an archival mapping project at Georgia State University. Join MODA to meet Curtis Jackson and his team of student researchers for a week in the Krog Codex Lab:

  1. Monday, Oct. 2, 1:00-2:00 PM (Constellations): studio with Curtis Jackson on the cultural and historical significance of this landmark, what content is trending, and how to access the archive online.

  2. Wednesday, Oct. 4, 1:00-2:00 PM (Krog St. Tunnel): Head to the tunnel for a private tour of who’s put up work this week. Hear the stories of the artists and how their styles have evolved.

  3. Saturday, Oct. 7, 7:00-8:00 AM (Krog St. Tunnel): The early bird catches…360-degree photos. Get a closer look at the 3D mapping technology and assist with the process of taking this week’s photos.

Registration closes September 29, 2023. Ages 18+. Tickets are non-refundable.

About the Midtown Studio Tour: Atlanta’s Midtown Arts District is home to museums, theaters, and Heart of the Arts: an incredible initiative designed by Midtown Alliance to strengthen the relationships between the city and its creative community. Between compelling public art installations and annual studio residencies, Midtown Alliance brings so much culture to this dynamic section of the ATL. So what if you could go behind the scenes to meet the artists making our city a more beautiful place?

On October 4th, we’re partnering with Midtown Alliance and Dewberry Foundation to offer an exclusive bus tour that will introduce participants to current artists in residence and provide them with insider knowledge into the public art within the district.

Meet us at Peachtree Pointe to hop on a bus tour through Midtown, where we will spend time visiting studios and chatting with artists about their practices. We’ll also hear from alumni about their time with Heart of the Arts and how this experience continues to inform their new bodies of work. The tour will conclude by 9:00, but registrants are welcome to stay and join us for a light reception with the artists and other special guests.

About MODA: Originally formed as the Atlanta International Museum of Art & Design in 1989, MODA (Museum of Design Atlanta) has grown and evolved over the years to become the only museum in the Southeast dedicated exclusively to the study and celebration of all things design.

In 2011, MODA moved to its current home in the heart of the Midtown Arts District.  This transition has been critical to the museum’s recent success, offering premium street visibility and immediate proximity to the city’s most important arts organizations.  We feature exhibits in all areas of design — such as architecture, graphic design, and more — in pursuit of bringing the MODA mission and vision to life.
