Join us for an engaging curator's talk for the exhibition "Free as They Want to Be: Artists Committed to Memory." This contemporary art exhibition explores the impact of historical memory through photography, video, and archival materials. Co-curated by Dr. Cheryl Finley, Inaugural Director of the Atlanta University Center Art History + Curatorial Studies Collective, and Dr. Deborah Willis, University Professor and Chair of the Department of Photography & Imaging at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, the exhibition invites audiences to reflect on the legacies of slavery in post-emancipation America and the liberating potential of art to articulate a sense of freedom and self-identity.

The Clark Atlanta University Art Museum (CAUAM) is dedicated to collecting, preserving, and exhibiting artworks that highlight African Americans' contributions to history and culture. Our goal is to develop a diverse collection of American and African Diaspora art while fostering scholarly research on African American artists.
CAUAM enhances accessibility for the university community and the public by offering aesthetic and educational experiences.
